Selection
Procedures
As per MESSB policy.  Click here to read this policy.
Criteria for
Selection

The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the player at the Metropolitan East Carnival. Areas of performance considered will be:

 1.      The skill level exhibited by the player.

2.      The fitness level of the player.

3.      The performance of the player as a member of a team.

4.      The attitude and behaviour of the player on and off the diamond.

Also to be eligible for selection, the player must not be thirteen (13) years of age or turn thirteen (13) this year or over thirteen (13).
Carnival
Rules

1.      All games will be played under the current A.S.F rule book.

2.      All games will be 1hr 15 minutes duration. In semi finals, a time match will decide the game. If the game is tied after completed innings, the team with the most points will advance to the finals. In the final, if teams are equal after completed innings and time is up, they will share the championship.

3.      First mentioned team will occupy first base bench and take the toss.

4.      Team cards must be given to the opposition 10 minutes before the commencement of the game.

5.      The game ball for the carnival will be one regulation leather game ball – 11” for boys and girls and 11” for Juniors Incredi-ball will be used.

6.      Any district listed for umpire duties are to provide an umpire where allocated. Failure to do so may incur a FINE of $15.00.

7.      Please clear your bench as soon as possible after the game.

8.      All score cards are to be signed and returned to canteen.

9.      Official diamonds are not to be used for “warming up”.

10.  In the event of a tie, to determine final placings, the team with the least runs against them will be determined the winning. If this is the same the winner of the match between the teams will be deemed the winner.

11.  ALL TEAMS ARE TO REMAIN UNTIL THE END OF THE FINAL FOR THE PRESENTATIONS AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE REGIONAL TEAM.

12.   No disputes will be entered into

13.   In all games (Both Senior and Junior), the pitcher is limited to four (4) innings per game - no more than three (3) consecutively.

Rule
Modifications
for Junior
Softball

We are attempting to include as many players as possible during each game.  Every player will bat in each game.  It is important that players remain in the designated batting line-up. Changes in the fielding side will not alter the batting line-up.

1.      Strike 3 is OUT whether the catcher catches the ball or not.

2.      ONE base only on an overthrow into FOUL territory.

3.      NO RUN may be scored on a pass ball. (this is a ball missed by the catcher)

4.      The pitcher is limited to four (4) innings with no more than three (3) consecutively.

5.      Whole team bats until nine (9) runs have been scored unless 3 outs have been made. Side is called after the ninth run has passed home plate.

6.      A batting tee is used after “ball 3” is called. A swing and miss counts as a strike. Three strikes and the batter is out. When batting off the tee, Tee-ball rules apply e.g no bunts off the tee, the ball must travel 3 metres. All batters should be encouraged to bat the live ball rather than wait for the tee!

7.      The strike zone will be widened to a pitched ball which in the opinion of the umpire could be hit by the batter.

8.      All 12 players will be on the batting line-up and will be entitled to bat in each innings

The game is played with a size 2 (11”) Incredi-ball ball.
First Aid Sports Medicine personnel will be in attendance throughout the carnival.
